100+ senior leaders across 4 Tata companies participate in Felt Leadership programmes on Safety

The Group Safety & Health team at Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) organised in house, Felt Leadership programmes for four Tata companies - Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, IHCL and Tata Coffee - with an aim of enhancing the Felt Leadership skills of the participants towards accelerating the efforts on positive safety culture in their respective companies. Participants from IHCL and Tata Coffee underwent the two-day programme on November 18-19 and 21-22, 2019, respectively, while a similar set of programmes was conducted for Tata Power and Tata Chemicals in July 2019. A total of 118 participants comprising senior leaders, executive committee members and CXOs attended these programmes. 
These programmes were specially designed to discuss the top hazards specific to each of these companies, with inputs for the programme design comprising Safety performances of the companies (both lead and lag metrics), findings from the incident investigations from past events and injuries, the current status of good practices, and unsafe conditions and behaviours. The programmes focused on the topics of risk thinking, safety culture, root cause thinking and the top five hazards & risks, with a specific focus on building a collective responsibility as a leadership team and individual leadership behavior towards a positive safety culture. The participants were also taken through some attributes of high performing organisations on safety.
The workshops concluded with each senior leader documenting three strategic commitments that will enhance health and safety culture among employees under their influence. The Group Safety & Health team will continue to engage with these leaders and provide support in tracking and reviewing these commitments.
These workshops follow the MD’s programme which was conducted at Ashorne Hill, UK, in February 2019 for MDs of six Tata companies and are aimed at enhancing the safety culture in their respective companies.
